An Open Letter, National Memorial Arboretum

National Memorial Arboretum, Staffordshire
About This Project

We are proud to have supplied the Yorkstone used for the newly unveiled sculpture ‘An Open Letter’ at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire. Designed by the Norfolk based artist collective Abraxas Academy to commemorate the LGBT+ community serving in the armed forces.

Unveiled by King Charles III the memorial is a fitting tribute to those who have served their country but also affected by the historic injustice when there was a ban on gay people in the military which was eventually lifted in 2000. The bronze & Yorkstone sculpture resembling a crumpled piece of paper constructed from words of personal letters which were used to incriminate military staff.
